What to consider when designing a successful international master’s programme

What is a truly international curriculum? What programme elements do prospective students value the most? How are admission criteria adjusted to fit individual programmes?

That and much more was addressed at a symposium about master programme design parameters held by University of Copenhagen in April.

15 universities in benchmark

The symposium was an outcome of a benchmark project initiated by University of Copenhagen and conducted by Illuminate Consulting Group. 15 universities were benchmarked in regards to master programmes’ structure and performances.

Design parameters to consider

The symposium addressed the how to’s, the do’s and don’ts of designing successful programmes. Class size, student body, curriculum, teaching methods, internships, alumni network, scholarships, housing, and social activities are all design parameters to consider. The Symposium served as inspiration for how to work with these and other design parameters to enhance international recruitment and satisfaction.

Panel of international presenters

Speakers from University of Helsinki, Utrecht University, University of Groningen, Lund University, LMU and Illuminate Consulting Group each gave their take on current trends and conditions of Northern European universities. The audience was Danish and Northern European university representatives with an interest in how to create internationally successful master’s programmes.
