Visiting NUS – new 'super' partner

Partnership

A delegation from The University of Copenhagen including both administrative staff and academics recently visited National University of Singapore. They came back with new a ‘super partner’ agreement that aims to increase mobility from 25 to 50 students per year and with inspirational insights from students and fellow NUS colleagues.

The main purpose of delegation visits to ‘super partner’ partners is to increase student mobility, identify new areas of cooperation and strengthen existing relations. Furthermore, the visits give useful inputs about how other universities work with their educational portfolio and provide opportunities to discuss curricula. Previously, delegations from the University of Copenhagen have visited University of Sydney and University of Toronto, two ‘super partner’ universities, and the visits have led to a 50% increase to the number of exchange students.

Aside from increased mobility at university level, the visit at National University of Singapore also strengthened the ties between the two Law faculties. A faculty-specific agreement, which includes increasing the number of Law student exchanges from 4 to 6 students per year, was renewed and signed.

Making students future-ready
During the 3-day visit at NUS, the delegation was introduced to interesting presentations by academic and administrative staff, providing important and inspirational insight into how NUS works with education.

Especially the presentation by The Centre for Future-ready Graduates about the NUS Roots and Wings programme inspired the UCPH delegation to reflect on how the university works with students’ soft skills, helping them to get ready for the labour market.

Meeting students from the University of Copenhagen currently on exchange at NUS gave the delegation insights into how they experience their stay at NUS, and what they learn from the different educational cultures, teaching methods, courses and campus life.

New agreement

The relation between UCPH and NUS is well established, but the visit to Singapore also saw the birth of a new relation with Yale-NUS College. Although mobility will be at a much smaller scale than with ‘super partner’ NUS, both Yale-NUS College and UCPH see great potential in exchanging students, who will get a rich academic experience within science, social sciences and the humanities. For UCPH students, studying and living at a small residential college will provide a unique community feeling while the Yale-NUS students can look forward to studying at a university nested in the city of Copenhagen.

Returning home with a suitcase full of inspiration
Visiting the National University of Singapore provided UCPH with a new ‘super partner’, an extended agreement between faculties of Law and a new Yale-NUS College agreement. Furthermore, the delegation brings back new knowledge about how NUS works with future-ready graduates and inspiration to increase student mobility. The discussions from the visit will live on: traveling together as a delegation leads to impressions and input being continuously discussed across UCPH faculties, academics and professionals.
